The Cadena Kids

Catch up post

Tyler had his third game on Saturday. It was really competitive and it seemed like every time we got a group out there that was into the game, the other team would pull out their less focused ones and put in their ringers. Ty didn't score this game but he did so well none the less. It was a really good game. On Sunday we enjoyed the evening having a picnic at Fort Sam with Susan (Kurt's sister in law), Steve (Kurt's brother), Gloria, Kurt, Mikey (yes he was actually off!), Tyler and Ava, and me. It was so much fun and we finished off the night with a spectacular fireworks display. What is it about fireworks that are so patriotic??? Sitting there I couldn' help but think of all the military units in Iraq having a fireworks show of a whole other type, not so much to their enjoyment. I took some of Steve's yummy brisket and Susan's yummy beans and Gloria's coleslaw along with some of my potato salad over to the army guy directing traffic. He was so polite and it's all I could do to say thanks. I wish more of them were home. My brother in law, Danny, will be leaving AGAIN this year, back to Iraq. There's not much I can say about it other than I pray for a miracle that this war comes to an end before he gets deployed once again.

I've been really bad about taking pictures lately, so I am cheating and putting a link to Kurt and Gloria's blog if you are interested in seeing pictures of this past Sunday. There's a really cute one of Ava in there!

This post is for Gloria and Kurt

Mainly for Kurt....I would have emailed this to you but I don't have your email address.

I just wanted to say how sorry I am for this certain situation that is going on in your life right now. I worry about you and your health with you agonizing over this. Just know that I love you and am always here for you both. Thank you for everything you have done for me, well us and we will always appreciate you for who you are, don't ever change.

All star player!

Tyler went from scoring his first goal at a game last Saturday to scoring THREE this Saturday!!! Go Tyler, go Tyler, go Tyler. One other team mate scored for our team and I think we scored a few times for the other team too. It was a lot of laughs and just such a joy to sit and watch.

I updated the site!!! Finally, I know. Check it out and let me know what you think of the new format.....

Ava either made a big step forward in potty training or made my life a lot more complicated. On Thursday (4.07.05) she took off her diaper and went into the bathroom and squatted and peed about 8 inches from the little potty. So either she is getting closer to potty training or she likes to pee on the floor.

We are counting down the days until Mikey graduates, 34 days to go.

SIdenote: This post was originally posted on April 10, not April 12th as said below. I edited it on the 12th therefore the date was changed.

We won!

Actually this league doesn't keep track of the score and they don't even have goalies but if you were to ask Tyler he would say that he won. And guess what! He scored his first EVER goal in a game! Yay Tyler! I was so proud I started to get teary but had to wipe away the tears before anyone saw me. It was really fun, well other than the kid that kept pushing Tyler. I offered to "take care of him" but somewhere in the rulebook I am sure it states that parents can not attack children from the opposing team ;-). Anyhow, it was a great game and I was so proud.

Ava said a new word today, Yummy! She had her 15 month appt yesterday and she is now 21lbs (that's 20% for weight, up from 18lbs at her 1 year and 10%). They didn't tell me her height and I forgot to ask but she is at the 25% which is what she was at last time. She got 3 vaccinations but only 2 actual shots. DPT, HIB and Prevnar, IU believe. She wasn't happy about those but can you blame her? All of the staff oooohhhed and ahhhed over her in her little backless dress and 6 ponytails (that's 4 across the top like a rainbow and 2 in back). Mikey told me the other day as I put her hair up like this...."She's not Coolio!" I laughed so hard! What a character he is.

One last note, we became members of Community Bible Church this past weekend. I have finally found a place to call my religious home. I am so happy to be a part of such a wonderful church and have God back in my life again. It has so many activities to participate in and I think I will start playing volleyball again, if my broken toe can handle it!

I am starting a foundation, MOEA

That's Mothers Of Escape Artists. Today I went to lay Ava down for her long over-due nap and as I closed the door behind me she cried bloody murder. Now for those of you that know Ava personally and have watched her or been over the house during nap time you know that this isn't highly unusual. She does that on occasion. But as I took about 10 steps away from her door I heard a big THUD. I dropped the stuff I was carrying and ran in to find her standing in the middle of her room still crying. I have no idea how she fell out, or more likely, climbed out. Her mattress is on the lowest setting, the gate was up and comes to a bit over her shoulders, the bumper pads came out months ago and there is nothing she could have stepped on to climb out. The only thing I can think of is that she used her feet like a monkey and scaled her way out. I checked her over for bumps and blood and she was fine. I then rocked her until she calmed and then laid her back down. She stayed in this time but I watched her on the monitor until she fell asleep. I don't think she even realized what she did but if she did then I hope she forgets how to do it.

Ty's first soccer game with the Thunder is tomorrow, wish us luck!

She's too judgemental

I drew a picture of Ty when he was around 1 year old and so I figured I needed to do it for Ava too. Evidently she didn't like it since I walked in to her scribbling with a pen all over her face in the drawing this morning. I still had some touch ups to do and some reshaping of her eyes and face but no sense in it now. I mean seriously, the first time she decides to use a writing utensil FOR ACTUAL writing and not eating or playing drums would be all over the drawing I did of her just the night before. Oh well, I guess this means I have to do another. I just hope she's not so judgemental of the next one.

Here's the picture before Ava decided to critique.........

Gloria, if you read this before you come over: We are going to Starbucks before or after the gym, I just want to thank you for getting me hooked on the Vanilla Chi Latte (sarcasm there). It reminds me of when I used to make mexican hot chocolate at my grandma's before she passed away. Wonder how many calories it has??? Grrr, I never wanted to become so cliche but it looks like I have become just another Starbuck yuppie.....grrrreeeeeaaaaaaat.

Easter fun

We started the day with an egg hunt at our house which Ava didn't get into too much since she was so focused on trying to get in the swing. After that we went to church and enjoyed a very powerful sermon preceeded by "Pictures from the Passion". It was (obviously) pictures from the movie. It was very moving to say the least. After church we went to Kurt and Gloria's for Easter lunch/ dinner. We had another egg hunt there which Ava actually caught onto by this point. It was a great day in all and the kids got plenty of stuff. Thanks everyone!
